WhatsApp Introduces New Security Features With Multiple Passkeys and Stronger Verification

WhatsApp has announced new security features designed to give users stronger protection against account takeovers and suspicious calls. The update introduces multiple passkeys, stronger two-step verification and additional information for calls from unknown numbers.

Multiple Passkeys for WhatsApp Accounts

WhatsApp is introducing support for multiple passkeys on a single account. This can make it easier for users who use WhatsApp across different devices, including Android and iPhone.

Passkeys allow users to verify their identity using methods such as a fingerprint, Face ID or their device’s screen lock instead of relying on traditional passwords or codes.

According to Meta, more than 1 billion people have already set up a passkey on WhatsApp.

Stronger Two-Step Verification

WhatsApp is also upgrading its two-step verification system.

Instead of relying only on a six-digit PIN, users can now create a longer alphanumeric password, including special characters. The additional protection is intended to make accounts more difficult for attackers to compromise.

Two-step verification provides an extra security layer in addition to the verification code used when registering a WhatsApp account.

More Information About Unknown Callers

WhatsApp is also adding more context for calls from unknown numbers on Android.

Users may receive information such as the caller’s country and whether they share any common WhatsApp groups. This can help people make a more informed decision before answering an unfamiliar call.

WhatsApp Expands Account Protection

The new features give WhatsApp users additional ways to secure their accounts and identify potentially suspicious activity.

Meta says the latest changes are part of its broader efforts to improve account security as people increasingly use WhatsApp for personal and professional communication.
